Students of Color

Notre Dame Students of Color, you are welcome at the University Counseling Center (UCC).

We see you and hear you, and we would like to know you, support you, affirm you, and offer our services and areas of expertise to you.

UCC staff seek to provide an environment where you feel safe, comfortable, and heard in our offices. We want to acknowledge that as a person of color, you often feel unsafe or unheard and there is no exception in the Notre Dame community. We also recognize the field of psychology as a whole is rooted in Western and Eurocentric philosophies and science, and counseling may not be common or embraced due to feeling emotionally unsafe or not seeing enough representation of therapists that look like you. We acknowledge these realities and commit to providing culturally-informed services, working within and honoring your value system, and creating a safe and confidential place for you to process your experiences and enhance your mental and emotional well-being.

In line with our commitment to being responsive to the needs of all students, the UCC will continue to work to hire a more diverse staff and enhance programming for Black, Indigenous, and Students of Color. If your experience at the UCC is not reflective of our commitment, please email UCC Director Dr. Christine Conway.
